Admissions
The admission of new pupils to the school is overseen and managed by North Somerset admissions officers.
For the 2026/27 academic year the Published Admission Number (PAN) is:
90 places in Reception (Year R)
90 places in all other year groups (Years 1–6)
A total of 630 total pupils
This means we will admit up to 90 children into Reception in September 2026, and up to 90 children in other year groups, if places are available.
For parents/carers with children due to start Reception EYFS with us in September, please visit the class page for further information.
Any parents/carers of other aged children wishing to join the school should contact the council admission team and complete the necessary application forms.

Delaying or Deferring Reception Entry
Parents of children starting Reception can choose to delay their child’s start date (for example, starting later in the school year) or defer entry until later in the academic year, in line with national guidance.
Parents of summer-born children may also request admission outside the normal age group if they feel this is in their child’s best interests.
Each request is considered carefully and individually, working in partnership with families.
Full details and guidance can be found in the KMAT Admissions Arrangements 2026/27.
For full guidance on delaying or deferring Reception entry, and the process for requesting admission outside the normal age group, visit the North Somerset Council deferrals and out-of-age-group admissions page.
Oversubscription & How Places Are Allocated
When a year group receives more applications than places available, all applications are ranked according to our oversubscription criteria, and places are allocated in ranked order. This is required by the School Admissions Code.
The oversubscription criteria used to rank applications are set out in the Kaleidoscope Admission Arrangements 2026/27 document (linked below). The oversubscription criteria for Ashcombe Primary School are set out on page 5 of the document. KMAT Admissions Arrangements 2026/27
Admission Appeals
If you are refused a place at your preferred school the letter from North Somerset will explain why, and you will be given the right to appeal. You should read the North Somerset Appeals Guidance available on the following website: North Somerset Council - School appeals

Moving schools (in year transfers)
If you are looking to change your child's school, we strongly urge you to check with North Somerset Admissions about school place availability before you commit to moving to or within North Somerset. Certain areas and year groups have very limited or no spaces available. The nearest school with a vacancy may be a far distance from where you plan to live.
There is no guarantee that siblings will be offered a place at the same school, a school in the same area, or at schools in the same direction. All admissions, including in year transfers are managed by North Somerset admissions officers.
