Policies

We have a range of policies that help keep our school safe, fair and well-organised. Some policies are school-specific, while others are set at Academy Trust wide. If you’re looking for something you can’t find, please contact the school office and we’ll be happy to help.

Early Years Foundation Policy 2025

Ashcombe Primary School recognises and values the importance of the EYFS in providing a secure foundation for future learning and development and we understand our responsibilities in ensuring that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. High-quality early years education, with a strong focus on communication, is good for every child. It is especially positive for disadvantaged children. Children need opportunities to develop their play and independent exploration. They also need adults to ‘scaffold’ their learning by giving them just enough help to achieve something they could not do independently.

Positive Handling Policy 2025

The term ‘positive handling’ includes a wide range of supportive strategies for managing unexpected behaviour. A clear and consistent positive handling policy supports all pupils, including those experiencing dysregulation due to social, emotional and behavioural needs, within an ethos of mutual respect, care and safety.

Remote Education Policy

Ashcombe Primary School understands the need to continually deliver high-quality education, including during periods of remote education – whether for an individual pupil or for many. We recognise the importance of maintaining high expectations in all areas of school life and ensuring all pupils have access to online lessons where required.

Through the implementation of this policy, we aim to address the key concerns associated with live online lessons, such as: systems and technology, safeguarding, conduct, and accessibility.

School Uniform Policy 2026

Ashcombe Primary School believes that a consistent school uniform policy is vital for:

• Promoting the ethos of a school.

• Providing a sense of belonging and identity.

• Setting an appropriate tone for education.

This policy lays out the measures the school has taken to ensure a consistent, fair and inclusive uniform policy, and to implement a uniform that reflects the needs of all pupils, is affordable, and provides the best value for money for both the school and pupils’ families.

We believe that pupils learn most effectively and achieve their best outcomes when they are comfortable, able to be themselves, and dressed in a way that sets an appropriate tone for education.

Accessibility Policy

Schools are required under the Equality Act 2010 to have an accessibility plan. The purpose of the plan is to:

  • Increase the extent to which disabled pupils can participate in the curriculum

  • Improve the physical environment of the school to enable disabled pupils to take better advantage of education, benefits, facilities and services provided

  • Improve the availability of accessible information to disabled pupils

Our school aims to treat all its pupils fairly and with respect. This involves providing access and opportunities for all pupils without discrimination of any kind.

Ashcombe Primary School values the abilities and achievements of all its pupils and is committed to providing the best possible learning environment for every child.
