School Lunches

At Ashcombe our kitchen is run by Aspens, Aspens specialise in providing catering to schools and colleges across the country. All our meals are nutritionally balanced and comply with the national standards for school meals. Aspens are proud to support British Farmers and producers and they take the sourcing of ingredients very seriously. Aspens have awards from the British Hen Welfare Trust and Compassion in World Farming for our use of Free Range Eggs. Aspens make sure they have the freshest and highest quality produce on the menu. You can find a copy of the latest Aspens menu below:

A healthy and balanced lunch, (whether school hot meals or packed lunch), helps your child maintain focus concentration and energy throughout the school day.

From 4th September 2025, Aspens will be using a new system for school meal ordering called SwiftKitchen. All children will receive details via School Ping which contains your SwiftKitchen Key that will allow you to login to order your child's meals. Please keep these  details safe and set-up the new system as soon as possible. Meal ordering will begin with SwiftKitchen on the first day of Term 1, so it's really important that you do this ready for the first day back to school.

Please also note the price of meals will increase to £2.65 from September.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact the school.

Here is a useful  User Guide for SwiftKitchen below:

Free School Meal changes that have come into place this academic year.

Please read carefully. Schools are now able to check eligibility for families OR you can check this directly with the FSM checker yourself - please see details below.

If you feel that your child could qualify for FSM then please apply directly via the FSM checker by going to: https://fsm.lgfl.net/ You will be given a decision immediately, and we can update our records. The check is very simple and easy to use.

Children may bring a packed lunch if parents prefer. Please make sure these are provided in appropriate containers and clearly marked with your child’s name. We actively encourage a healthy packed lunch (either everyday or on school trips).

A typical balanced lunch box should contain:
  • A drink of water or pure fruit juice
  • A piece of fresh fruit
  • A sandwich / wrap or pasta (carbohydrate)
  • A protein/ dairy element
  • No more than 2 small ‘treat’ items, such as flavoured yoghurt, fun size bar, cereal bar, cheese strings, crisps etc.
  • We ask that parents do not send their child into school with any nut or nut based products as snacks or in their lunches. We have several children with severe nut allergies, therefore, this is a simple way that we can keep each other safe.

If you would like other menu ideas to provide your child with a varied range for their lunch box please visit the school food trust website.
