Design & Technology
Have you ever sat on what feels like the world’s most uncomfortable chair? Perhaps you have bought a new coat and it’s not quite as warm or as waterproof as you were hoping for? Perhaps you then began to think about how these every day items could be improved? If you have found yourself in this situation then you are half way there to becoming a design technologist!
Design and technology encourages children to become creative problem solvers as they learn how to make things that have a purpose and that work well. This could be a vehicle with turning wheels, a wooden tower or making vegetable soup. This subject is great for preparing today’s pupils to participate in tomorrow’s rapidly changing world as they work collaboratively to plan, make and evaluate their designs. The subject encourages children to use their hands, their initiative and creativity to look at their world with a critical eye and develop much needed vocational skills essential for our world and their well-being and self-worth.
